Most Draft issues can be resolved quickly. This guide covers common problems and their solutions.
Common Issues
Draft doesn't respond to the shortcut
If pressing ⌥+Space doesn't open Draft:
- Check if Draft is running— Look for the Draft icon in your menu bar
- Check for shortcut conflicts— Another app may be using the same shortcut
- Try a different shortcut— Change it in Draft → Settings → Shortcuts
- Restart Draft— Click the menu bar icon → Quit Draft, then reopen
Draft can't read selected text
If Draft opens but shows "No text selected":
- Grant Accessibility permission— Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → Enable Draft
- Restart Draft after granting— The permission change requires a restart
- Check the app supports text selection— Some apps don't expose selected text via accessibility APIs
Accessibility is required
Voice input isn't working
- Grant Microphone permission— System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Enable Draft
- Test your microphone— Open Voice Memos and check it's working
- Check input device— Make sure the correct microphone is selected in System Settings → Sound
Draft is slow
If Draft takes more than 3-5 seconds to respond:
- •Check system resources — Close resource-heavy apps
- •Large text selections — Very long texts take longer to process
- •First run after boot — Initial model loading can be slow
- •Memory pressure — Draft works best with 16GB+ RAM
Results aren't inserted
If Draft processes but nothing appears in your document:
- Check Accessibility permission again— It may have been revoked after a system update
- Try in a different app— Some apps have restricted text input
- Check if text field is editable— Draft can't insert into read-only fields
